Gujarat Titans Secure New All-Rounder

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 18: The Gujarat Titans (GT) have officially announced the signing of Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka to replace the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

A statement released by the league confirmed, “Gujarat Titans (GT) have selected Sri Lanka's Dasun Shanaka as a substitute for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.”

Phillips had to return to New Zealand due to a groin injury he sustained during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6.

The injury occurred while Prasidh Krishna was bowling, as Ishan Kishan hit a short ball towards point for a single. Phillips made a valiant effort to prevent the run but ended up injuring himself in the process. He was escorted off the field shortly after.

Despite being signed by GT, Phillips has yet to play in IPL 2025. Known for his exceptional fielding abilities, he had previously showcased his skills during the 2025 Champions Trophy, where he was recognized as the best fielder.

Phillips joined GT for INR 2 crore during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Over his IPL career, he has participated in eight matches across two teams, SRH and RR, accumulating 65 runs with a top score of 25.

Dasun Shanaka, the new addition, has an impressive record with 1456 runs in 102 T20 internationals for Sri Lanka, averaging 19.67, including five half-centuries, and has taken 33 wickets.

In addition to his T20 achievements, Shanaka has played 71 ODIs and 6 Tests for Sri Lanka. In ODIs, he has scored 1,299 runs at an average of 22.39, with two centuries and four fifties, while also claiming 27 wickets. In Tests, he has made 140 runs and taken 13 wickets.

Shanaka is also well-known in the T20 league circuit, amassing 4,449 runs in 243 matches, averaging 26.17, with three centuries and 16 fifties, alongside 91 wickets.

Previously, he was part of GT in 2023, where he played three matches, scoring 10 runs. The all-rounder will join GT for Rs 75 Lakh.
